ABOUT ME

Christine Weeber is the author of Sastrugi, a poetry chapbook. Her poetry and prose have appeared in A Poetic Inventory of Rocky Mountain National Park; Solo: On Her Own Adventure; The FEAST: Books, Art, Food, Film, and Travel e-zine; and other publications. Christine is the copy editor at SAPIENS, a new online anthropology magazine that brings innovative insights from the field of anthropology to a general audience. In 2008, she was the poet-in-residence at the Gilpin County Public Library in Colorado.

Christine earned an MA in cultural anthropology and a graduate certificate in women’s studies from Colorado State University in 2005. Her research focused on South African immigrants, apartheid and post-apartheid society, ethnicity, cultural constructions of race, and gender. Her work grew out of anti-racist activism, as well as her experiences and questions growing up white in a mixed-race environment in the U.S.

Christine has been on a healing journey since 2003, and for seven years was the primary caregiver and “wing mate” for her mother, Milly Weeber, during her battle-dance with cancer. She now also serves as a shamanic healing practitioner in Nederland, Colorado.

Give to me, again, your laughter                                                                                                    Dame, de nuevo, tu risa
like a pier among waves and fishermen.                                              como un muelle entre olas y pescadores.

We could walk for days out upon the sound.                                            Caminaremos días enteros en su sonido.
